Dresses

December 8th, 2009 § 1 Comment

I think most people tend to buy one kind of item when they go shopping: pants, sweaters, t-shirts, workout gear, work attire, jewelry, bags, shoes…for me it is dresses. Whenever I go shopping I am immediately drawn to pretty, flouncy, usually dressy dresses. I find it perfectly reasonable to spend $300 on a nice dress, but balk at spending the same for a shirt and pants. I think it might be an aspirational thing, and if I’m ever rich and famous, I plan to have a wardrobe full of dresses that I wear daily. For now my normal routine is jeans and a t-shirt or sweater, though when I’m working I get to wear all my dressy clothes, which is nice. And all this to say–here are a couple dresses that I have saved!

From Lirola’s etsy shop

I don’t usually go for drop waists, but I love this Adrianna Pepell dress from Nordstrom

Not exactly a dress, but a flouncy jacket from Tulle

And I love these costumes from The Joffrey Ballet

I’m really enjoying watercolor and flowy tops with ruffles right now. Spring clothes are just so cute!

Built By Wendy

I haven’t known about Built By Wendy for too long, but gosh I’m really loving her Fall 08 Collection! I love how everything looks so effortless and free…I love everything about this first photo–the dress, the print, the black tights, the big bag, and man-oh-man those shoes.

I really love how the black jacket floats away from her body here…so cute without even trying to be.

This shirt reminds me of Tabitha…which incidentally may top the list for my eventual spawn :)

I even think my brother would like this sweater!, and it’s hard to find him clothes that he’d wear besides the Gap. I just love the collar!

Gap, Banana

August 22nd, 2008 § 2 Comments

Not really sure what Gap is up to this season…looks like they’re trying to be Indie European, with weird matchups between very girly, flowy tops and dresses, with puffy woodsman jackets–NOT a fan. I’m all for mixing up the structured and unstructured, and different materials and whatnot, but come on, it’s just not flattering. I did kind of like this:

But literally…that’s it. I was a bit more successful at Banana Republic. Really I am a huge sucker for sweater dresses (I saw this vintage St. John sweater dress on Etsy and about died…am still considering it), so we get right along. I’m not sure I really see the quality difference between regular Banana and BR Monogram–seems like the regular stuff only higher priced. I think I’ll probably stay downstairs, especially with Alex’s 30% discount!

Look at those sleeves!

OLD NAVY

August 22nd, 2008 § Leave a Comment

I was reading Elements of Style the other day and was blown away by some of the Old Navy pieces she was featuring. I thought I’d go over there and browse a little bit, and man, they have really mixed things up. I am so pleased that they’ve decided to compete with stores like H&M and Target, instead of wallowing in the performance fleece-only rut. I’m definitely going to have to go over there sometime soon, especially if I can fit into their pants! It’s official, that I am too small/too tall to fit into Gap pants anymore. I know, I know, cry about it, I’m small, but you know it is kind of a problem that I only have one store (Banana Republic) that actually carries pants my size for less than $100 apiece. Still, I’m a student, and I need a cheaper option for every day!

Help, I can’t decide which color to get of this dress–it is $10!

Tulle

August 17th, 2008 § 2 Comments

Yesterday I bought two really cute sweaters from Urban Thunder, a new store in LaPorte, Michigan. They carry a lot of Tulle there, a brand that I love but have only ever seen online and in InStyle–so that was very exciting! I went on their website last night and found lots of other cute things, but I limited myself to this dress (happy birthday to me!), which I had tried on in the store but was a bit big (they didn’t have any XS in stock)…really, it’s the cutest dress and the picture doesn’t do it justice. I am so excited to wear it! It’s really a great brand, it’s not too expensive and they have great sales! They’ve also expanded a lot, including a men’s line! I think they started out with just jackets, and that’s what I bought about a year ago, and they really are cute and warm. I really wanted to buy this jacket in the teal evergreen color (I saw it at the store yesterday and it is beautiful) but I have two fall jackets and a winter coat already, so there is no need for it. But somebody should get it because it is just so cute!!!

random

two random things i like today. first, this wood endtable, and can’t for the life of me remember where i found it. i must start renaming pictures after where i find them, so i can actually find them again. anyway, i like that it’s simple and pretty, with clean lines, but not boxy. i also really like this girl’s bangs (who i do know is a friend of jordan’s over at oh happy day). i really do love blonde people, but i’m having fun as a brunette lately. maybe i’ll just try out her bangs whenever i go to the hair place again. it’s been forever and i’m already dreading them saying it’s been too long. i’m sorry, but i’ll never be the type of girl to get my hair cut and colored every 5 -6 weeks. who can afford that?

The Bold Print

February 29th, 2008 § 1 Comment

Well, really enjoying the throwback to the ’60s this spring. I feel like we do this every year, but I’m loving the bold prints… Also, I like the artisan-y feel of a lot of the prints too…I’ll have to get some more examples of that; Prada particularly comes to mind. But here are two that I like:

Elie Tahari–dress

Alberto Makali–trench coat

Speaking of cool prints, I feel like the leaves of this pineapple would make a cool one. I have a cute skirt in mind!

Where Am I?
