home!

well, back at home in chicago after a lovely week traveling to NC to visit drew and meg, mel, and katie. spent the week in winston doing quite a bit of nothing but spending lots of time with drew and trying to avoid my email. also met his friends and roommates and ate lots of yummy food…and went to shag on the mag to dance!!!! i lovelovelove dancing so that was a nice way to end our time together. it was rully nice to be together for such a long time with nothing that needed to be done (although i find that whirlpool haunts me everywhere…kinda not thrilled about that). nice just to know that he’d be the first and last person i’d see every day. :)

then on saturday met up with meg, mel and katie for brunch at midtown, saw meg’s house with all its new paint colors, and then went back to chapel hill with mel and katie. basically just chilled the entire time i was there watching movies and planet earth besides church and walking the dogs outside (notably i wore a skirt and a short sleeve shirt today…two different outfits but still…now i am wearing pants and a long sleeve shirt and a coat). but a good amount of chat time which was really nice, definitely something i miss. it does make me wish we were closer so it wouldn’t always have to be catchup, but hopefully we’ll actually communicate via the blog a bit more regularly, and the marathon i think will be a good experience to go through together. also hopefully drew and i will move a bit closer to NC than chicago (dc is really growing on me!), soooooo we’ll see. overall a very enjoyable week.

gotta get back down to business tomorrow and see about getting my replacement kindle (drew stepped on mine this week…HMMM) from fedex office somewhere…and then books and such for probably my LAST QUARTER OF CLASSES EVER. so weird. and yet, i kinda feel like i’ll do some sort of continuing education or crazy masters when i’m like 50, so it feels a little empty to say i’ll be done with finals forever, cuz i probably won’t. but still, for a long while anyway. kinda nice. ;) anyway, off to watch some internet tv…i’ll sign off with this cute kitchen plate idea!!! i like the kitchy-ness of the mismatched plates and the modern sputnik chandelier over the table.

happy

am feeling much better this evening after:
-yummy enchiladas dinner with grandma and poppa, michael, aunt ellen and uncle ron, laura, and matthew

-catching up on all my blogs. i just love getting inspiration from everyone

-lying down in bed (it’s official, my legs are SORE and i think my feet are SWELLING. gross!)

-my summer/work wardrobe

-daydreaming about fun vacations (ha! such is the danger from going on vacations in the first place; you can never get enough, especially when they’re accompanied by good friends)

since i’ve been scouring the online for the past few hours catching up on everything i’ve missed over the past several days, i’ve accumulated lots of fun things, so all those will be posted very shortly :) for now, just a shot of me and my friends. oh, i am so blessed :)

Sitting at the Greensboro airport waiting for my plane to board. What a whirlwind weekend. Loved seeing Mel and Katie, and Meg for a bit today. I’m thankful for the time we had: dance party, chat time, eating at Mi Pueblo, going to church at Redeemer, but it’s always bittersweet to go home. It feels like I just got here. And today especially went by quite quickly. I discovered the amazing flavor of carmel coffee milkshake at Cookout last night, and have had two since then. It is delicious :) I’m also in love with my GPS, which led us to Cookout from Meg’s new house before Mel and I headed off to Greensboro. Being in Shelby was really fun. Very carefree and relaxed. This afternoon Mel and I visited Meg in her new townhouse, which is really cute. I’m trying to campaign a trip after I graduate next summer, so hopefully that’ll work out. I’m ready for a new adventure. Work is okay. I’m hoping it’ll get better. Haven’t fallen in love with what I’m doing yet, and to be honest it’s a bit lonely. I actually really miss QVC. Anyway, I think it’s about time to board…so off to Chicago, and then a train ride to Indiana, and a drive to Michigan. Yuck going to work tomorrow, but at least I don’t have to run in the morning! :)

just a quick note to say north carolina has been so fun…yesterday melanie, katie and i spent the morning outside reading on the dock, swimming in the lake, and chatting like old times. came inside to eat some lunch and watch juno (i’ve now seen it three times, and i still really enjoy it!) and then we all kinda fell asleep/lounged until katie’s grandpa came over for dinner. before dinner he taught us how to play bridge, which was really fun!!! i hope to keep playing, maybe some of my chicago friends will want to play, or michael and my grandparents once i get back to michigan. anyway, after bridge we had a nice 4th of july dinner of hot dogs and hamburgers, and canteloupe and baked beans–yum!!! oh, plus huge hunks of chocolate cake and ice cream mmm mmm!!! after dinner we sat around on the deck and tried to catch glimpses of people’s fireworks through the trees. we were planning on having a dance party as well but we needed to update itunes and by the time everything was ready we had sat down and lost our momentum. so we just chatted and mel and katie gave each other back rubs :) this morning i woke up pretty early and ran NINE MILES. i can’t remember the last time i ran that far!! i think i averaged about 10 min/mile because i was at a little over 9 minutes after 7 miles, and then i ran a bit slower outside with mel, katie, and dr. kelly. but yay!!! making progress and sticking to the schedule, which feels really good. we have a pretty active day planned for today, including biking, kayaking, and more swimming, and i’m sure more lounging around and chatting hahaha. but right now my next step is getting a shower, wooo!

A Few of Me

Have decided I want to incorporate more of my actual life into this blog, so I’m shifting the original purpose (an online collection of artistic influences) into a more memory-driven documentation of this transition period, so as to record who I am becoming. It’s been a fun process so far, and as I’m in Chicago longer I feel myself finally settling in, and finally enjoying life again after going through a bit of an identity crisis for a while there. Anyway, still a big part of my life and inspiration for it IS art, so that will continue to be a focus, but i do want to make some room for other thoughts and more personal discoveries. For now, just a few pictures of friends.
