Isn’t that a pretty painting? In the words of Noah’s dad from The Notebook, that’s a damn picture, there.
Things are going well. Still no job, but looking and applying like a fiend and training the dog in the meantime (who, incidentally, decided to unlearn the command “down,” which is incredibly frustrating. silly dog!). Also made two loaves of bread today to try and get back on track for the BBA Challenge. Am woefully behind, but hoping I can get a few done before I leave for Christmas vacation, which is coming up so quickly I can’t believe it! We’re going down to Florida for the holidays, which should be lots of fun. Drew is headed up to Cleveland, and will be taking Goliath with him. I just hope his grandpa doesn’t terrorize him. We do spoil him a bit*. But yeah, just found out we’re also going to the Outback Bowl since Northwestern will be playing Auburn. So yay! I love bowl games; we’ve been to at least one for the past two years (Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl and the Eagle Bank Bowl, and Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl) and they’re lots of fun. Alright, off to shower and get dinner ready! Drew gets cranky if we don’t have food early-ish.
*a LOT.

Oh my goodness, the past few weeks I have been saving up lots and lots of images for this post, and I hope you enjoy them. Apparently in my time of unemployment, my hobby (besides baking bread) has become searching Craigslist for fixer-upper real estate and dreaming about how I would renovate and decorate each space. Honestly I would like to fix up my own house or flip it to someone else, but as I have a mound of student debt and no income to speak of other than past TA jobs that keep trickling in, now is not the ideal time to be planning real estate investments. But that doesn’t stop me. So here are some of my inspirations that have been floating around up there…
An old image, but I still love the color, the cozy corner of paintings and books (organized by color), and the dog! We are still waiting for a furry friend of our own…
LOVE the white built-ins, the stone fireplace, and the wood spiral staircase.
More built-ins
LOVE the butterfly mobile, and the graphic print sheets…
Painted staircase runner!!!
I really like this whole space…the built-in bookshelves, the chaise up against the smaller credenza, the big painting over the fireplace and the large mirror against the adjacent wall. Of course this would never work in our home as Drew is planning to buy a large flat screen TV as soon as he can, but, I can dream
I really like the layout of this room…if our living room was a bit wider I think it would have been nice flipped. And there’s even an unobtrusive spot for a desk!!! (which by the way he never uses)
From the IKEA catalog…lately I’ve been really into stripes. This room might be a little too over the top for me, but good ideas on how to use a round table so that it looks in proportion…
More stripes…I just LOVE this idea of white bedding with a striped skirt. I’d love to use this against my blue and white dream bedroom.
Mmmm I just love this color combination of pale blue and red/orange–but mostly white! I can’t tell if that’s a chair rail or waistcotting, but I love it! And the rattan shades…
Speaking of waistcotting, I LOVE this idea to incorporate a darker color paint that isn’t too overwhelming. I like the chest and the painting on the wall, but not too big a fan of the table and chairs.
Similar color and LOVE the painting over the bookshelves!
Really like this idea to display many photos in an organized way…
LOVE this Tiffany-painted kitchen!
Similar in color…love this idea for a painted hutch.
Don’t you just love this milk glass chandelier from Tonic Home?
More pretty white beds with a bold pattern pillow…
And finally–this one I like because of the window braces (they remind me of my grandmother’s old house), and the calm, modern color of everything else in the room. We have similar yellowy walls, and I have been at a loss for how to decorate with them so that everything isn’t a beige mess!
Ooops, just one more. Don’t you love this tiled shower? I rather like the little round ones.

A few months ago Drew and I went to the Art Institute in Chicago and we both fell in love with this painting, called Eis 4.
It was in a set of 4 of the same style, including the one below, and they were all brilliant. It’s hard to tell on a screen, but he scrapes on different layers of paint, so they’re really 3-dimensional up close. They are really really cool.
We thought hard about getting a print of Eis 4 while we were there, but it was kinda expensive for a impulse buy and we didn’t have a good way to get it where we were going. But months later and I can’t stop thinking about it! So I went to Gerhard Richter’s website and took a gander at what else he’s done. Here are my favorites…which do you like?

I like this print, by Cindy Thornton:

Whew! I am exhausted! It’s been a really great day though
I got up around 10, went for a run (oh yes first time since October!!!! I only ran 2 miles but I felt good! Would probably have done more if my new headphones would stay in my ears…they sound really good but easily fall out, hmmm…), then came back upstairs and showered. Took Christine’s car to the big grocery store and now have a fully stocked kitchen. Wow this makes me happy. Came back and made two soups, and am freezing half to save for later. I made a tomato basil and cream of carrot, and they turned out really well!!! I realized afterwards that I should have gotten some bacon for the carrot soup as garnish, but I can get that tomorrow. I also found a container of melted chocolate chips in the freezer, from who knows when…so I decided to heat it up and make chocolate covered strawberries–my absolute favorite treat!!! Honestly there is nothing better. Now I’m sitting on the couch in the dark listening to the sound of the dishwasher go at it (wow I also love my dishwasher). I am pretty exhausted…my back hurts! So I think I’ll put on some hand lotion and get back to reading my book (East of Eden…it’s been so long since I’ve read it!!) with my feet up and snuggled up in a blanket. That sounds nice
Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!

Wow, I’m so glad this exists!! Ugallery is a website devoted to selling art by emerging artists still in school. What a great way to let students get their art out to a larger audience and allow the public access to affordable art! Here are a few I enjoyed

Now why isn’t Whirlpool doing this???

Hello! This morning I am happy to be eating a raspberry poptart and dove chocolate and orange juice (hm now that I type that out it kinda sounds like a disgusting combo, but it really is yummy!!!) and blog-blog-bloggin away. My class was unexpectedly canceled today, so, uh, I am free again today! Honestly I haven’t done much work in the past few days…except for my investments problem set which took like not a lot of time at all. Maybe I should go into finance, after all… Oh, and I think I’m finally gonna get my hair cut today. If all goes well I’ll share some pics soon.
Anyway, lately I’ve been saving a lot more art than I normally do. Here’s what I like today:
First up, underwater photography. I have a real soft spot for flowy garments under water.
Greece!
This one is called Sunny Saturday…makes me think of sizzling pancakes in the morning!
I love love love this idea of a family portrait!!!!
Hmmm I could probably recreate this one!!!
I like that none of these go together hahaha
And lastly, this one is called Horizon, by the very talented Emily Barletta. It reminds me so much of the mountains in the Indian paintings Laura and I saw when we went to the Freer Gallery in DC a few weekends ago–see below!!!
Here’s the original…see more here.

This is a mega post to clear off a lot of the pics I have saved to the desktop. Right now they’re threatening to go off the page if I add any more! I’ve already had to dock my post it notes halfway off the screen… Anyway, I’ve come across a LOT of pretty interiors over the past…uh, several weeks…so now I’ll finally share them with you!
I love this shade of yellow, the built-in console, and the picture layout!
Such a calming bathroom.
Wow! What a terrace!
I like this idea of an island kitchen table…and I like the oval shape.
Similarly, really like this island desk setup with the consoles flanking both sides.
Mostly for this hutch.
More orange!
I love that coffee table.
Talk about symmetry! And a really pretty gray paint.
I really like this shade of green, and the way they mixed with white walls.
I am absolutely in love with the furniture pieces in the next two photos.
I love the color scheme of this room!!
Pretty chandelier.
Yeah…I could love here.
I like the idea of plant art in the kitchen.
More ceiling detail and suspended staircase.
This reminds me of the fireplace at Grandma and Poppa’s old house.
I like this end of the aisle bookcase idea!
I love the light and use of color!
A little overwhelming, no?
WOW! Awesome skylights form floor planks on this awesome terrace!
Cool shelving unit and chair…
Party garland!
