  1. Hey, I did not find your blog b/c of your resume… I found it, as it was somehow in a DesignsSponge Google image search. I love it and I love yer writing. You seem so confident, like such a go-getter. I have a question for you. I am in somewhat of a slump. My biggest worry right now is that I feel like one of my three letters of recommendation is luke warm. The writer has told me that I should tell her if I want something changed. I dunno. I guess my question is, what drives you to succeed? How do you get what you want without seeming pushy? Merci.

  2. Hi Violet, sorry for the late reply here. Thanks for your sweet words about my blog! Regarding your question, if your reviewer has told you that they’re willing to change their recommendation based on your feedback, by all means give it to them! I would rewrite the parts of the recommendation that feel lukewarm to you, in order that it better highlights your skills, and aligns well with your interest in the position you are applying for. Then send it back to them and say, “What do you think about this? I made a couple changes to highlight x,y,z a bit more, or to bring attention to such and such to tie in with the job description.” If this person is close to you (and again, has asked for your feedback) you can definitely do this and not come off as pushy. I’ve done this myself for a recommendation that was good, but I wanted to talk about analytical skills instead of just my writing, so I added it right in and sent it back to them via email. They were totally cool with it and in the end I got what I needed! Best of luck, and let me know how things go :)
